A Girls-Eye View of Peats Ridge Festival

Kevin Parker - Sunday, January 08, 2012
From 29th December 2011-1 January 1st, 2012, my family and I enjoyed the Peats Ridge Festival. This festival was energetic and exciting, from enjoying tea and music in the Chai Temple to building a raft and riding it down the river, I felt there was so much to do at Peats Ridge.

On the first morning I woke at 5:30 to the pleasant sound of the birds singing and the warm feeling of sunrays down my back. Exiting the tent, I noticed that about 10% of the campers were already awake. In an hour or so most people were up and ready to start the day. By 8:00 all the non-campers had arrived, although there was still two hours until the festival was to start. Personally, I think they could have started the festival a bit earlier, e.g. 9am.

I really enjoyed taking part in the acting workshop. Our instructor’s name was Lulu. The group and I enjoyed playing her drama games together.  laughter_yoga_peats_ridge

Another workshop I enjoyed was the Laughter Yoga (right). We learned several different laughs, including the lawn mower laugh, the credit card laugh, the New Year’s laugh, and many more. I liked this workshop, as it made me feel alive and happy.

I also enjoyed watching the bands perform, especially in the Chai temple.

My disappointments lay in the children’s festival, kids on hill. After the face painting and hair spraying, there’s not much for 10-year-olds to participate in.

All in all, Peats Ridge was a fabulous festival for all ages, and I hope that I could go back one day.
