National Multicultural Festival - February 10 -12, 2012
27-Jan-2012 The National Multicultural Festival is held in Canberra in February each year (10 -12 February,
2012) and features local, national and international music, dance and creative arts. 2012 will be the festivals 16th year of operation. Some 200,000 people are expected to attend the
three-day event.
Major features include a Greek glendi (a celebration of Greek culture), an international concert, a Pacific Islander showcase, and international food and dance events. A vibrant fringe component complements the mainstream festival activities.
The headline act for this years major concert will be Antony Callea(left) whose career is still going strong after his Australian Idol success some years ago. The 2012 face of the festival is wine industry figure, Wolf Blass.
The festival's outreach has been increased with new sponsorships from SBS and digital content provider GoConnect. High-profile presenters from the SBS network will be hosting key events throughout the three days of the Festival.
Thousands of extra seats and plenty more shaded areas will make the 2012 gathering a more comfortable
experience. ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch said the number of seats placed throughout the festival footprint would increase from 300 last year to 2000.
“We will have seats placed throughout the festival footprint, which this year has also expanded from Garema Place right down into Akuna Street.
The 2012 National Multicultural Festival takes place Civic, Canberra from February 10 to 12.
