Stonefest Bill Gutted As Another Music Festival Feels the Heat
12-Oct-2011 Stonefest, Canberra's longest running music festival, has announced changes to this year's event - which is set to take place in just a few weeks. It follows on the steps of the cancellation of the Great Southern Blues Festival, Soundwave Revolution, Ragamuffin the Reggae Festival over the last short period of time.
Acts gone from the draft bill, according to an ABC report, include The Vines, Jebediah, The Grates, The
Vines (video of He's A Rocker below for those who are aching) , Josh Pyke, Jonathan Boulet, Stonefield, Owl Eyes, Lanie Lane, Hunting Grounds, Big Scary, 360 and more.
Just in case you want to book them for that weekend they may be free for birthday parties - especially if festivals keep going under at the current rate.
Still on the bill line up now consisting of The Aston Shuffle, Illy, Tonite Only, Flight Facilities, Sampology (AV/DJ set), Diafrix, The Hump Day Project, and Dept. of Defiance.
"Now, now! Who said the B-team at the back of the room? That's enough Jenkins! What do you mean who the hell are they? Hip Hop and DJ's you stupid boy -and damn good ones at that!"
Just a few months back, Stonefest announced the introduction of 3 stages for this year's event but have scrapped those plans to focus on a MUCH smaller bill. Could be time to call it a day guys. It was great while it lasted.
Director of Campus Life at the University of Canberra said organisers were forced to make some changes because "Stonefest is not attracting as many people as seen in previous years, and we feel we cannot continue with the 2011 festival in its current format." (ed: no-one was buying tickets ed:)
"This is an opportunity for us to present something different to the Canberra audience. So, to give our loyal supporters something to look forward to, we have decided to present a more intimate event, which still boasts a strong lineup of some of the best dance and hip hop artists in Australia today.
"We are excited about the Stonefest 'Rock On' Party lineup and encourage the local community to support this event."
A statement released by festival organisers says "ticket holders who purchased Stonefest 2011 tickets via credit card will receive an automatic refund to their card. Those that purchased with cash or EFTPOS should return to their point of purchase with photo identification to obtain a refund.
