The festival which is moving between major Australian cities features 30 Australian premieres, with the opening night film by Japan’s king of comedy, Koki Mitani.
The 15th Japanese Film Festival begins in Adelaide as of this year’s OzAsia Festival. JFF15 will travel to Perth from 29 September to 7 October, then Brisbane on 1 to 4 November and Canberra from 9 to 20 November. It then moves to Sydney from 17 to 27 November 2011, before taking on Melbourne from 29 November to 6 December 2011.
The film, A Ghost of a Chance, is a comedy courtroom drama where the only witness is a 421-year-old ghost.
Actor Yutaka Takenouchi will make the trip down under to promote his latest film Oba, the Last Samurai, directed by Hideyuki Hirayama. Families with young children will enjoy Takashi Miike’s Ninja Kids!!!
The movie is based around a ninja academy for children. Youngsters attending are encouraged to come dressed as ninjas.
There will be sci-fi films and animation fans will be happy to note that the live-action adaption of Gantz will be screened along with its sequel Gantz: Perfect Answer.
