Jessica Mauboy

Jessica Hilda Mauboy (born 4 August 1989), is an Indigenous Australian R&B singer-songwriter and actress. Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Mauboy auditioned for the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006 to pursue a recording career, when she later became the runner-up of the season. Although she did not win the show, Mauboy subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

In February 2007, she released her debut live album, The Journey, which debuted at number four on the ARIA Albums Chart, and certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). The album contained selected songs Mauboy performed as part of the top twelve on Idol. Later that year, she became a member of the multi-platinum selling girl group Young Divas, before leaving the group in 2008 to resume her solo career. On 22 November 2008, Mauboy released her debut studio album, Been Waiting, which peaked within the top fifteen of the ARIA Albums Chart, and produced her first number one single, "Burn", as well as the album's other top ten hits, "Because" and "Running Back".

Been Waiting certified double platinum, for shipments of 140,000 units, and became the second highest-selling Australia album of 2009. It earned Mauboy seven ARIA Music Award nominations, winning the ARIA for "Highest Selling Single" for "Running Back"

In January 2010, Mauboy made her acting debut in the film adaptation of the 1990 Aboriginal musical, Bran Nue Dae. On 5 November 2010, she released her second studio album, Get 'em Girls, which debuted at number six on the ARIA Albums Chart and certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). The album features the top-ten hit, "Saturday Night", with American rapper Ludacris.Since making her first appearance on the ARIA Charts as a solo artist on 12 October 2008, Mauboy has released seven top fifteen singles (four of which have reached the top ten), and two top ten albums.With shipments of over 700,000 units, Mauboy is currently the highest-selling female contestant from Australian Idol.
