This is Not Art is one of Australia’s leading independent arts festivals. Since its inception This is Not Art festival has been dedicated to the exploration of experimental and emerging arts media and concepts, providing a platform for innovative and passionate culture makers to present their ideas.
This is Not Art (TINA) is a supercharged convergence of writers, performers, thinkers, independent and industry musicians, creative researchers, electronic artists, dilettantes, and DIY culture makers in a showcase featuring over 400 local, national and international artists.
Held annually in Newcastle, Australia, the festival presents a diverse program of over 250 events, across five days. In 2011 TINA will be held from the 29th of September until the 3rd of October.
Each year This is Not Art festival is developed in partnership with arts collectives and organisations from across Australia.

The Crack Theatre Festival
The Crack Theatre Festival is a national festival and forum devoted to experimental and cross-disciplinary theatre and performance. In 2011 Crack Theatre will unleash a program of performances, gigs, panels, forums, workshops and interventions, profiling the diversity of contemporary Australian Theatre.
Crack Theatre Festival 2011 is directed by Jane Grimley, Gareth Hart and Ben Packer
Critical Animals
Critical Animals Critical Animals musters together artists that seek out postgraduate research, practice-led development and/or quasi-intellectual conversation, to devour the critical contexts for the experimental and emerging arts and media practices in the This is Not Art program.
Critical Animals 2011 is directed by Yolande Norris, Ella O’Keefe and Julia Shaw
Electrofringe
Electrofringe presents a program of experimental electronic arts and culture dedicated to presentation, skills development and artistic exchange. The program focuses on uncovering emergent forms with an emphasis on encouraging interaction between emerging and established artists.
Electrofringe 2011 is directed by Estee Wah and Cara-Ann Simpson
National Young Writers’ Festival
The National Young Writers’ Festival is Australia’s premier event for emerging writers, publishers, performers and trouble-makers.Far from the seas of white hair, book signings and celebrity author worship you might expect, the NYWF is a DIY, hands-on conversation between equals.
The National Young Writers’ Festival 2011 is directed by Talina McKenzie Zoe Norton and Bhakthi Puvanenthiran
Sound Summit
Sound Summit is an annual convergence of independent artists, labels and people interested in working and playing in innovative and independent music. Over the last 11 years Sound Summit has evolved from being the National Independent Labels Conference into the multi-faceted festival/conference it is today.
Sound Summit 2011 is directed by Kirsty Brown and Chris Hearn and Brooke Olsen
