Westcoast Songfest - Joondalup -
A lovely event organised yearly by a small dedicated group of local music teachers in the Joondalup area of Western Australia.
The West Coast Song Fest (formerly known as the West Coast Warblers), began in 2000 with 6 schools and 450 students singing. It was the inspiration
of a very talented music teacher, Mrs Judy Vorster.
The festival was established to provide a performance opportunity for developing primary school choirs. The intention was that the choirs would perform in a non-competitive environment, encouraging participation rather than competition and allowing the students to build good relationships with other schools and members of the community.
This year organisers , Donna Marwick-O’Brien, Helen Fabri and Paul Storey (and a supporting collegiate caste of many), will gather together some 1800 children from the region for the performance which takes place at the Joondalup Arena for a one hour concert.
The amazing thing about the event is that the children only have an hour rehearsal as a group directly before the event having practiced their role in the 2 or 3 part harmonies in their own schools beforehand.
